Workforce
Development in Tanzania
Between 2001-2004
GLC received 3 grants from the U. S. State Department to conduct
training and exchanges for Tanzania. The programs helped train
women in local government, businesses to take the benefit of
AGOA and increase export potential and to strengthen private
sector development.
In May 2005,
our delegation of business people from Tanzania participated
in a SBDC luncheon in Toledo, where the presentation was
about “The Source” by William Willis, Executive Director
of the Lucas County Workforce Investment Board. After this program
the Tanzanians emphasized the need and the benefit of establishing
similar programs in Tanzania that can help businesses as well
as assisting to job seekers. Mr. Willis offered assistance to
follow up on this request and work with GLC. During the summer
of 2005, GLC –through WSOS - submitted a proposal on “Tanzania
Workforce Development” to the State Department, and received
a grant to complete an exchange program between September 2005
and December 2007.
