"Blossoming in the World"
Celebrating Women Everywhere
- Saturday, March 1, 2008, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Buffet lunch starts at 11:30 a.m.

Commemorating International Women's Day (Floral traditions around the world, musical selection, flower design contest, women awards and special quests).

Do not miss this annual event with silent auction, networking & fun for both women and men! Proceeds of the luncheon will benefit GLC activities helping women across the globe.

Held at the Inverness Club, 4601 Dorr Street, Toledo, OH 43615.
Tickets are $30 in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door. Seats are limited! Please purchase your tickets by February 15, 2008. Please make check payable to: Great Lakes Consortium and write in the Memo: "March 1 Luncheon".

“International Women’s Network Pot-Luck” - March 12 from 5-7pm. at the UT Eberly Center for Women.

This program is organized in cooperation with the Eberly Center and the UT International Students Association. This program is free and open to the public, but please bring a dish to share

We welcome women from different countries who study, work or live in our community, to meet them and learn more about them and their need.

A new GLC initiative of establishing an “International Women’s Circle” will be introduced at this event and if there is an interest GLC will support this program with regular gatherings at the center where participants will be able to get help on topics that they have difficulties to understand the American system (financial literacy, legal matters, etc.) Please RSVP to 419-530-8572 or glcevents@hotmail.com if you would like to attend.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

American Summer Institute in Hungary (June 25-July 25, 2008)

10 volunteer teachers from NW Ohio are invited to teach English for Hungarians in Szeged/Csongrad County (the Sister City of Toledo/Lucas County) and in Veszprem County. Teaching topics will include American history, geography, culture, life, etc. This is a great opportunity for student teachers to gain practical experience, but this program is open to any students (minimum age is 21), teachers and community partners. 20 hours orientation/preparation with GLC is required at the UT Eberly Center, plus Americans are responsible to pay their own round-trip ticket to Hungary

Volunteer professional internship opportunity (January – June 2008)

GLC is accepting applications for volunteer internship at our Toledo office (at the University of Toledo Eberly Center / Tucker Hall). Students or community partners who already have experience or interested to gain experience in international training and development activities (incl. event planning and organization, coordination of international visitor programs, grant research and grant writing, global and local communication, web-update, documentation, PR and media connection) please contact Elizabeth Balint. We will tailor your activities to your interest with flexible work schedule but min. 10 hours/week and min. 3 months would be required.

 

The Mission of GLC is to initiate, seek support for and coordinate international training and development efforts to enhance capacity and resources with needs in the world community with large emphasis on women. Established in 1999, with a collaborative effort of Bowling Green State University, Lourdes College, The University of Toledo and WSOS Community Action Commission, Inc. -Contract Agent and Manager.
